Yes on Prop 37- Quick Rant #RealFood #NoGMOS #StopMonsanto

Hi all,
I know I have not been very active on my blog lately, but my new job/life situation has kept me away from my favorite place in the world, the kitchen. This quick and highly political rant is about voting yes on Prop 37 for the California elections. The truth is Genetically Modified Organisms are not only disgusting but also really bad for the human health as well as the health of the planet and its other inhabitants. The only people who benefit from these type of crops are industrialized agriculture giants – think Monsato- that with their monocrops have devastated the diversity while poisoning our food supply. Now before you start calling me a communist, I wholeheartedly believe in the free market, but I don’t believe that corporations should genetically modify the food we eat. PERIOD. It has worked for most of society’s history and it should be left alone ….. or we might just will start growing three eyes.
GMO salmon anyone?? As of right now, you might be buying this mutant and have no idea!
We can either have GMOs or we could have a wide diversity of crops like in Bolivia:

Here is a few examples of a county I admire a lot for their progressive thoughts and legislations regarding food and the environment.

The like bar is not working for me. Just to let you know I like your moxie about voting and wanted to pass this on to a group that does alot of progressive blogging at Dagblog but also hang out on Paradigm. Good luck with you job.
I with you! Onward to victory!
Thanks!!
*Oops, that’s a typo- The comment was supposed to say “I’m with you.” Anyway, too bad that this measure failed… Have a great weekend!
You do too!
I had been thinking about GMO lately, and I can recall being told similar things in high school: that GMOs are bad. I’m very keen on agreeing with this, but…. -why- are they bad? I saw a hint of why in the info about Bolivia: I think it makes more sense and is better for our bodies and the earth if we have multiple crops (instead of just wheat and corn in absolutely EVERYTHING). Are there any other specific reasons you can lay out that make GMOs bad?
Hi there,
While there is not an overwhelming amount of studies that prove GMO’s health risks, partly because it’s a new field of study, there has been some progress. Check out this article: Rat Study Sparks Furor over Genetically Modified Foods
We are trying to get a similar prop on the ballots in WA state soon. I think all GMO foods should be labeled!!!
Thanks lady!!
Even though most papers in the State reccommended agin’, I already early voted for. THAN for getting the word out!
ps THAT WOULD BE THANX FOR GETTING THE WORD OUT, and as to why GMO foods “might” be bad for you, on just this level only…and there are many more layers and levels…JUST THINK FOOD ALERGIES! dru
Thanks for your support 🙂
Have you seen the video “JustrLabel it”?

Great video! Thanks for sharing.
Would love to say I’m outright against GM products, but in a World that is going hungry and in Western societies where demand is anything but local their future may be a prosperous one.
I don’t think as of yet there’s any concrete evidence they are bad for health, just flawed theories and I’m sure many people couldn’t tell the difference between GM and non-Gm products.. BUT I do recognise that they should be labelled as GM to contain the growing oligopoly of GMO producers controlling food supplies and support smaller producers. Will be interesting to see if it does get passed and if other countries, such as here in the UK, follow suit.
Hi Matt,
I agree it’s a matter of choice! While there is not an overwhelming amount of studies that prove GMO’s health risks, partly because it’s a new field of study, there has been some progress. Check out this article: Rat Study Sparks Furor over Genetically Modified Foods
Great infographics! I’ll be sharing this across the Twittersphere and on FB
Thanks 🙂

Yes on 37…
Thank you for spreading the word in this important issue!
Madam, we did lose the fight but it’s a testy subject. I mean Mexico, Japan, and various other nations ban this stuff!
So true. This temporary loss in California is just a testament of how much power big corporations have over the political system. Until the next ballot!
Yeah it’s just such a shame it didn’t pass! It’s banned in Mexico, Japan, and various other places…
Just thought I’d add a link that really opened my eyes about GMO’s and the politics surrounding them. After reading this, one might wonder who’s going to be controlling the world’s ability to get food in the future. Right now we take saving seeds to replant for the next crop for granted. GMO seeds do not lead to new plants. You have to buy more seeds as the farmers in India have discovered. The comments following the article are interesting too.
Thanks for adding information! Indeed, those are called terminator seeds, which means that the farmer needs to buy a new batch of seeds after each harvest.
The link didn’t post, so please delete my previous comment. Contact me by email if you want the link. You can also google “GMO’s and Indian Farmers”, it’s the link ” ‘Bitter Seeds’ documentary reveals tragic toll of GMO’s in India/Grist”.

By the way Madam. You look beautiful! It’s definitely a great read. Thanks for contributing to all our lives!
Thank you so much!
Jesus. Everyone thinks this girl is beautiful (even though she’s married). Hmmm … that movie “There’s Something About Mary” comes to mind.
You know, sometimes when I buy electronics, I see a message that California has some law about recycling old electronics, and it makes me wonder what the hell the rest of the country does.
Can one state really save the whole planet? What good are all these “Prop” laws that California creates, when most people live some other place and when the cost of living is so high in California that most people can’t afford to move to this supposed progressive paradise anyway?
By the way, I still think you’re beautiful. Tell your husband with the same name as me that I said that.
